To glimpse a version of Keelungers’ life hidden to most, take a stroll into the alleys. Take a chance on some side roads off the beaten path and follow your intuition (and your nose!). It’s here in these alleyways and hidden crevices of the city that true Keelung Culture comes to life.
Ruth C. Coffee
When you walk out of Keelung Train Station, you can hear the noise from the buses, taxis, and motorcycles. Turn right, walk into a small alley and go straight. In the quiet, you will find this cozy coffee shop, which feels like a secret base reserved exclusively for you.
This shop is not big, but it is definitely a comfortable space to work or to read. Every small table has a power socket, with free Wifi enabling the smooth transition from travel to research, online reading, or discovering more of Keelung’s history online!
You can enjoy a quiet afternoon monopolizing the alley’s views from a glass patio. The owner of Ruth C. Coffee has a background in design and it shows in the coffeeshops art and atmosphere. He has a very laid-back personality and can always be seen with a warm smile. The café is stocked with his elaborate collection of designer furniture, and sometimes he even runs a mini-exhibition. If it’s raining when you arrive in Keelung, cross the road from Ocean Plaza and drill into this little corner full of the wonderful smell of coffee.
