Keelung’s Alley Shops
A mindless stroll along Keelung’s many traditional alleys will give you a completely free and authentic glimpse into a Keelungers’ life. Despite the age-stained walls, take a chance on some side roads off the beaten path and follow your intuition (and your nose!). It’s here in these alleyways and hidden crevices of the city that true Keelung Culture comes to life.
Apart from mainstream Bubble Tea shops and the iconic Miaokou Night Market, many hidden stalls lie undiscovered along the streets – and Ruth C. Coffee is one of them.
Ruth C. Coffee
When you walk out of Keelung Train Station, you can hear the noise from the buses, taxis, and motorcycles. Make a right into a small, under-the-radar alley and you will find a cosy coffee shop with a charming, vintage decor.
This shop is not big, but it is definitely a comfortable space to work, read or catch up with friends. Every small table has a power socket and the whole cafe is powered with free Wifi. Take a seat by the window to enjoy a quiet afternoon admiring the alley’s views from a glass patio. Otherwise, settle in close to the bar to watch the friendly baristas at work and relish the scent of fresh coffee beans.
The owner of Ruth C. Coffee has a background in design, which certainly shows through the coffeeshop’s artistic atmosphere. His prized collection of designer furniture adorns the walls, and he sometimes even runs a mini-exhibition.
The next time you’re in the area, remember to follow the smell of coffee and tuck yourself into the welcoming Ruth C. Coffee for a relaxing time!
